Information

We are holding auditions for our IA Academy 2026 production of

A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder

In this hilarious show, set in London in 1909, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder centers on Monty Navarro, a penniless clerk who is informed after the death of his mother that he is ninth in line to inherit the earldom of Highhurst, controlled by the wealthy D’Ysquith banking family. After the imperious ruling Lord dismisses Monty’s claim of being a relative, the eight D’Ysquiths ahead of young Mr. Navarro begin dying in natural and unnatural ways!

Audition Process

Students who would like to participate as a member of the cast MUST audition and students who would like to be part of the crew need to fill out an application form. After auditions are complete, there will be a few weeks of call-backs to finalize casting and crew positions. Successful candidates will be contacted with a role offer by spring break. Students will have until April 10 to accept or decline the role offered to them. A final cast list will be posted by the end of April.  Our first read-through of the script will be in May and students will have some vocal rehearsals during the month of May to learn the music. Over the summer, students are expected to learn their lines and the music. Our first official rehearsal will be on the first day of school in September 2026. Performances will run from November 26-Dec 5. Any student in SD42 is welcome to audition. For more information about our program see the link:

Step 3

Prepare for your audition. You will need to sing something and perform a short scene. You do not need to memorize the lyrics or the scene for your audition. Please scroll down to see the audition scenes.

If you are already familiar with the show, you may sing a verse of any song from the show you like. If not, listen to the following sections of the songs and decide which one you'd like to sing for your audition. Please note: no matter which song you sing for your audition, you are not auditioning for a specific character, you are auditioning to be a part of the cast.  Once auditions are complete, the creative team will reach out to individuals regarding call backs for specific characters and indicate character-specific material to learn for call backs.
